Project Overview

A scalable Solar + ESS hybrid system designed to reduce diesel consumption and ensure reliable 24/7 operation for a large poultry farm in Zimbabwe.

Project Results

Customer Challenges

High Diesel
Consumption

Heavy dependence on diesel
generators increased fuel
and maintenance costs.

Rising Energy
Costs

Fuel price volatility
increased overall farm
operating expenses.

Reliable Power
Requirement

Ventilation and feeding
systems required
uninterrupted operation.

Future Expansion
Needs

Scalable energy systems
were needed to support
future farm growth.

Voltnowa Solution

A phased Solar + ESS deployment strategy that minimized investment risk whileallowing future expansion.

Why the Customer Expanded?

The customer already operated a
1MW grid-tied solar PV system. After adding the first 2MWh ESS container, energy utilization and power reliability improved significantly.

The successful operation encouraged the customer to deploy a second identical Solar + ESS system, doubling both solar generation and storage capacity.

Phase 0 – Existing System

1MW Grid-Tied Solar PV. The customer already operated a 1MW solar system but had limited energy utilization
after sunset.

Phase 1 – Solar Power+

20FT Container 2MWh ESS
1MW PCS Built-in: Added energy storage to
capture excess solar energy
and reduce diesel usage.

Successful Operation

Reliable operation and improved energy savings
validated the solution.

Phase 2 Expansion

Additional 1MW Solar PV+ 2MWh AIO ESS
Expanded the system to meet
growing energy demand.

Final Configuration

20FT Container, 2MWh ESS, 1MW PCS Built-in

24/7 reliable power with
significantly reduced
diesel consumption.
